Château Angelus

We visited Château Angélus on the 29th of July. While the château was under construction at the time, limiting us to just a few rooms, it was still impossible not to be struck by the beauty of the estate and the depth of its story. Angélus has a long history rooted in Saint-Émilion, with vines cultivated by the de Boüard family for generations, and the estate rising to international prominence for its precision, power, and sense of place. The story behind the iconic bell—symbolising the church bells once heard ringing across the surrounding vineyards and now featured on every label—was particularly captivating. Despite the circumstances, we were warmly welcomed and generously invited to taste Carillon d’Angélus 2015 and Château Angélus 2015. To finish the visit, they revealed a remote control that activates the giant bell atop the château, which they rang first to the British national anthem and then the American—an unforgettable and wonderfully theatrical end to the tour.
