Château Lynch-Bages
The final chateau of our day was the esteemed Château Lynch-Bages, a distinguished winery nestled within the Pauillac appellation of the Bordeaux region. This iconic estate holds a significant place in Bordeaux's history, as its wines were classified as one of the eighteen Cinquièmes Crus (Fifth Growths) in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1885.
Notably, Château Lynch-Bages has recently undergone an extensive renovation, culminating in a newly designed chateau. We were fortunate to be among the first guests to witness this remarkable transformation, adding an extra layer of exclusivity to our visit.
During our time at Château Lynch-Bages, we had the pleasure of sampling a diverse array of six different wines from the 2020 vintage:
-
Lynch-Bages 2020: The estate's flagship wine, showcasing the epitome of Pauillac's terroir and winemaking prowess.
-
Haut-Batailley 2020: A wine from another esteemed Pauillac estate, offering its own unique expression of the region.
-
Ormes de Pez 2020: A wine from the neighboring Saint-Estèphe appellation, representing a different facet of Bordeaux's character.
-
Echo de Lynch-Bages 2020: The second wine of Château Lynch-Bages, providing a more accessible introduction to the estate's wines.
-
Haut-Batailley Verso 2020: An intriguing variation or cuvée from Haut-Batailley, showcasing their innovative winemaking.
-
Blanc De Lynch-Bages 2020: A white wine from Château Lynch-Bages, offering a delightful departure from the red wines traditionally associated with Bordeaux.
Our visit to the newly renovated Château Lynch-Bages was a fitting conclusion to our day, a testament to the enduring spirit of innovation and excellence in Bordeaux winemaking. The diverse selection of wines we sampled allowed us to explore the richness and diversity of the region's vinous offerings, making it a truly memorable experience.
