Tasting Notes
The 2019 Vin de Constance undergoes an 18-month maturation process in 500-liter Hungarian and French oak barrels, with 50% of the barrels being new, followed by an additional 18 months in oak foudres. This vintage experienced an increased number of sunlight hours during the growing season compared to previous years (2,998 compared to 2,588 in 2018, for instance). Despite the absence of botrytis, it boasts an understated nose reminiscent of Sauternes, with subtle nutty nuances intermingling with wild honey, quince, wax resin, and lanolin aromas.
On the palate, this wine presents a medium-bodied texture with remarkable purity. It showcases disarmingly fine acidity and concludes with a slightly Germanic finish, featuring a lingering hint of lemongrass on the aftertaste. Crafted under the stewardship of Matt Day, this 2019 Vin de Constance represents a remarkable expression, edging closer to what one might perplexingly refer to as a non-sweet dessert wine.
